By introducing this kit into the primary school system, it will create familiarity and comfortability through the generations as they have all experienced receiving the kit before and knowing what it contains. By being in schools, it makes available to all socio-economic backgrounds. The design has been considered to be inclusive of most differentiation in students, considering legibility, and by being gender neutral.

40 Foot of Conversations

This book explores the community of a local swim spot. It documents  the conversations between the regular swimmers, as they discuss how their daily interactions with each other are so significant in their lives and why the sea is so fundamental to their relationships.

The book is an accordion style design, reaching 40 foot in length, as a nod to the name of the swimming spot. Photographs of the area spread across multiple pages to give the feeling of continuity, while the conversations on the pages can still be understood when the book is not extended.

To represent the nature of the conversations within the book and the changing volume between the individuals, the type is visually set so that it overflows where the individuals began to talk over each other and also leaves large spaces where the conversation lulled or the individuals took a moment to reflect.

All Things Peach

'All Things Peach' is a book designed and created by myself, to explore all of the historic and contemporary symbolism found in art and media relating to the fruit.

The physical book is designed to be the same dimensions as a flat peach so that it fits in your hand comfortably. The front cover uses G.F. Smith's plike paper to give it the same velvety texture found on the skin of the peach. Lastly, the book title can be found as a sticker on the front cover, mimicking the presentation of peaches when bought.

The page numbers sit where the reader usually places their thumbs. The text boxes wrap around the readers thumbs so that, while reading such a small book, they are not inconvenienced in any way. The visual imprint of the text wrap even when thumbs are not covering the page numbers also embodies pressing into a gentle peach and leaving an impression.

“Art should be like a holiday: something to give a man the opportunity to see things differently and to change his point of view.”
